Best eSIM for Thailand in 2026: Bangkok, Phuket, and island-hop coverage

Thailand is one of the easiest eSIM destinations in the world. AIS, TrueMove H, and DTAC have wall-to-wall 4G coverage in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and even on most major islands (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Phi Phi). You don't need a SIM card kiosk at Suvarnabhumi.

How much data do you need?

  • Bangkok city break (3-5 days): 3-5 GB. Grab/Bolt rides, Google Maps in the chaos of Sukhumvit, Line/WhatsApp messages.
  • Bangkok + islands (7-10 days): 10 GB. Add photo backups + occasional video calls.
  • Full island-hop (14+ days): 20 GB or unlimited.

Bangkok speeds

Bangkok 5G on AIS or TrueMove regularly hits 200-400 Mbps in the central business district (Asok, Silom, Sathorn) and 100+ Mbps in most Sukhumvit Sois. The BTS and MRT (subway) have continuous coverage end-to-end.

Khao San Road and the old town areas (Rattanakosin) sometimes drop to LTE because of older infrastructure. Plenty fast for Maps and messages.

Island coverage reality check

The good news: most beaches you'll go to have 4G. Patong, Kata, Karon on Phuket — all 4G. Koh Samui — 4G across the island. Koh Phangan main beaches — 4G. Phi Phi Don main beach — 4G.

Where you'll lose signal: small dive sites between islands, the southern tip of Koh Phangan (Haad Rin in monsoon season), and during boat transfers if you're far from a tower.

Should you buy a Thailand-only plan or a regional Asia plan?

If Thailand is your only stop: Thailand-only is cheaper. Local rates are some of the cheapest in Asia (you can find 1 GB / 7 days for under $2).

If you're hopping Thailand → Malaysia → Singapore or doing a Southeast Asia loop, the Asia regional plan saves you from having to swap eSIMs at each border.

Quick verdict

For most travelers, a 5-10 GB Thailand plan, 15-30 days, is the right answer. Budget around $4-8 for a single trip. Browse Thailand eSIM plans →
